Community Wellness Centers

The NJ Division of Mental Health and Addictions (DMHAS) currently funds and supports 29 Community Wellness Centers in the 21 counties across the state, all of which are consumer-operated and provide dedicated space for mental health consumers to grow in their recovery through self-help, socialization, peer support, opportunities for employment, and specialized wellness programs.  During the last several years, all of the Community Wellness Centers in New Jersey have successfully incorporated significant changes as the Wellness and Recovery model has become an integral part of the overall mission and is being used more actively to inform the service delivery model.

United By Wellness (UBW)

United by Wellness is a virtual wellness center sponsored by the Mental Health Association in New Jersey where peers provide training on skills and tools for recovery to people living with mental health and/or substance use disorder. This is accomplished by providing no-cost support, education and advocacy in a safe and diverse community. Together, we embrace the uniqueness of our members and offer hope on their chosen path toward recovery.
United by Wellness was designed by our Senior Peer Leadership Team and was built on their experience of providing services through a virtual platform. Peer staff, interns and volunteers working with the Mental Health Association in New Jersey’s Wellness Centers across the state combined resources to create unique and responsive support services to our United by Wellness members.

UBW members have access to more than 80 groups over seven days per week through Zoom, video and telephone.

Eight Dimensions of Wellness

The Eight Dimensions of Wellness, as defined by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), are categorized by the following: Emotional, Physical, Spiritual, Social, Intellectual, Occupational, Environmental, and Financial. Maintaining wellness and balance in each dimension of wellness is a vital component to overall student health. SAMHSA provides a Step-By-Step Guide to Wellness that explores different ways to develop your dimensions of wellness.
